The paper proposes a simple method to estimate the stator resistance and rotor permanent magnet flux in a dual-three phase permanent magnet synchronous machine. This is accomplished by setting to zero for a short time the phase currents on one of the three-phase winding set, while the other is tasked to generate the whole motor torque. With the proposed method, the drive can operate properly without any service interruption, and in addition, it does not require any additional test signal nor additional sensors. Simulations and experimental results validate the effectiveness of the method.

Abstract

The paper proposes a simple method to estimate the stator resistance and rotor permanent magnet flux in a dual-three phase permanent magnet synchronous machine. This is accomplished by setting to zero for a short time the phase currents on one of the three-phase winding set, while the other is tasked to generate the whole motor torque. With the proposed method, the drive can operate properly without any service interruption, and in addition, it does not require any additional test signal nor additional sensors. Simulations and experimental results validate the effectiveness of the method.
