Coniuges, uxores e sponsae di militari nelle epigrafi lambesitane

This paper aims to examine the rich epigraphic documentation which was found at Lambaesis on soldiers’ marriages. The inscriptions show a more complex and articulated reality than what can be obtained from legal and literary sources. Despite the bans, probably dating back to the disciplina Augusti, the soldiers had relationships with women who are qualified in the epigraphs with the same terminology used for the iustae nuptiae (coniunx, uxor and, less often, sponsa and marita).

La presente ricerca si propone di esaminare la ricca documentazione epigrafica ritrovata a Lambaesis sulle unioni matrimoniali dei soldati. Le iscrizioni mostrano, rispetto a quanto si ricava dalle fonti giuridiche e letterarie, una realtà più complessa e articolata. Nonostante i divieti, risalenti probabilmente alla disciplina Augusti, i militari si univano con donne che nelle epigrafi sono qualificate con la stessa terminologia utilizzata per le iustae nuptiae (coniunx, uxor e, meno spesso, sponsa e marita).
