Abstract

The paper deals with a technique to build sense coils on permanent magnet synchronous motors with minimum machine design modifications. Specifically, sense coils are realized by properly shaping the wiring of the thermistors placed in the end turns of the stator windings. Obtained sense coils can be effectively exploited on sensorless motor drives to mitigate the effects of parameters variation and system nonlinearities. A straightforward way to exploit the proposed technique to sensorless control surface mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor drives is also proposed and its effectiveness is assessed by experimental tests.
