In this paper is presented a brief discussion about some prehistoric architectural structures (between the Neolithic and the Early Bronze Age) that can be interpreted as defensive structures. These structures have different structural characteristics and probably, in the various settlements, have also had a different function. Unlike the fortifications of more recent phases, it seems that their symbolic value is predominant (value related to the identity of the group)compared to the purely defensive one, which can be attributed with certainty only to a few of these constructions, since their construction represents an important and unifying moment for the communities.

Abstract

In this paper is presented a brief discussion about some prehistoric architectural structures (between the Neolithic and the Early Bronze Age) that can be interpreted as defensive structures. These structures have different structural characteristics and probably, in the various settlements, have also had a different function. Unlike the fortifications of more recent phases, it seems that their symbolic value is predominant (value related to the identity of the group)compared to the purely defensive one, which can be attributed with certainty only to a few of these constructions, since their construction represents an important and unifying moment for the communities.
