The reference to specific exemption conditions (ἀλειτουργησία / ἀτέλεια) for various professional categories, including that constituted by physicians, established by an imperial constitution (Dig. 27, 1, 6, 2: τῷ νόμῳ) of the age of Antoninus Pius, lends itself to a close comparison on the one hand with the texts of two epigraphs from Sidyma in Lycia relating to the immunity granted to two chief physicians – in one case by the express will of the Augusti (TAM II 221, ll. 4-5: ὑπὸ τῶν Σεβαστῶν ... ἀλιτουργησίᾳ) – and on the other hand with a passage by Galen, which very clearly places in strict correlation the exemption of "some doctors" with the "laws" (τινὲς δὲ διὰ τὴν ἐκ τῶν νόμων αὐτοῖς διδομένην ἀλειτουργησίαν).

Abstract
The reference to specific exemption conditions (ἀλειτουργησία / ἀτέλεια) for various professional categories, including that constituted by physicians, established by an imperial constitution (Dig. 27, 1, 6, 2: τῷ νόμῳ) of the age of Antoninus Pius, lends itself to a close comparison on the one hand with the texts of two epigraphs from Sidyma in Lycia relating to the immunity granted to two chief physicians – in one case by the express will of the Augusti (TAM II 221, ll. 4-5: ὑπὸ τῶν Σεβαστῶν ... ἀλιτουργησίᾳ) – and on the other hand with a passage by Galen, which very clearly places in strict correlation the exemption of "some doctors" with the "laws" (τινὲς δὲ διὰ τὴν ἐκ τῶν νόμων αὐτοῖς διδομένην ἀλειτουργησίαν).File | Dimensione | Formato | |
