Muhammad al-Kulaynī (d. 939-40 or 940-41), was a fundamental architects of the Imamite scriptural canon. While living in Bagdad, he completed the Kitāb al-Kāfī fī usūl al-dīn, a massive collections of teachings attributed to the imams of the majority branch of Shiʿism. The present contribution analyses the traditions relating to the theme of the ‘neighbour’ transmitted in this text, focusing on the types of relations between the Imami community and its neighbours, Muslims, Christians and Jews, thus arriving at a definition of the concept of the neighbor and evidencing its different aspects.

Abstract
