Abstract

The Cloudifier project deals with the design and development of an ecosystem of toolsfor the assisted migration to a cloud or multi-cloud environment of scientificand business-oriented distributed applications. Recent surveys show that many of theorganizations that are not yet running their applications in the cloud are experimentingwith infrastructure-as-a-service mode. The Cloudifier tools will provide capabilities toevaluate the characteristics of a legacy distributed applicationby profiling its behavior, to collect information about performance, cost and securityon commercial cloud service providers, as well as to assess the quality of theinterconnections between providers. On the basis of this data, and interacting with thecustomers that expose their requirements in an informal way, a "smart" brokering systemwill find an optimal service composition and evaluate its execution cost, by taking intoaccount the cost plans of the providers, and possibly exploiting multi-cloud configurations.
