International cooperation and transfer of knowledge in water resources by prof. Vujica Yevjevich, as seen from an Italian perspective

Vujica Yevjevich, or "Dr. Y" as he was fondly called, is recognized as one of the founding fathers of stochastic hydrology. Also, he is remembered for his contribution in the transformation of the hydrology discipline from descriptive to scientific. In addition to professional, educational and research activities, he gave outstanding contributions to international cooperation projects on several topics in hydrology and water resources of great theoretical and practical interest. His influence on students, colleagues and water resources managers stemmed from his capability of merging local and global dimensions of the investigated problems as well as of integrating the specific engineering skills within a multi-disciplinary approach. Most of all, his commitment to work, his moral integrity and his dedication to the intellectual growth of young men and girls who cooperated with him made his legacy long lasting. In the present paper, an overview of the main international meetings and research projects, so as of the significant knowledge-transfer activities of prof. Yevjevich are illustrated, with a specific attention to the initiatives which he carried out in cooperation with Italy.
