A low concentration red blood cells (RBCs) flow in unsteady conditions was investigated in a micro-channel. A pressure strength of different intensity was imposed at the micro-channel inlet and the flow was monitored optically. The movies acquired were analysed by the Particle Image Velocimetry to extract the spatio-temporal flow maps related to the RBCs velocity on the horizontal and vertical direction, and to the velocity gradients. The results obtained has enriched the characterization of the three RBCs behavioral flow patterns {Weak Activity, Vorticity, Alignment} established in a previous work leading to a deeper understanding of the conditions for the particle displacements in the micro-channel.

Abstract
A low concentration red blood cells (RBCs) flow in unsteady conditions was investigated in a micro-channel. A pressure strength of different intensity was imposed at the micro-channel inlet and the flow was monitored optically. The movies acquired were analysed by the Particle Image Velocimetry to extract the spatio-temporal flow maps related to the RBCs velocity on the horizontal and vertical direction, and to the velocity gradients. The results obtained has enriched the characterization of the three RBCs behavioral flow patterns {Weak Activity, Vorticity, Alignment} established in a previous work leading to a deeper understanding of the conditions for the particle displacements in the micro-channel.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
