Le carte xilografate nel patrimonio documentario. Studio per una metodologia descrittiva normalizzata

The book is an object of use and over and above the textual informational significance it carries within itself a set of data that are related to material culture. A descriptive methodology was developed by identifying from the documentary compendia coming from the libraries of the province of Syracuse those samples in the binding of which block-printed papers appeared, using semantic codification, which allowed a initial conversion of the data into a digital system. To achieve this goal, after the classification, the compositional elements of manufacture were deconstructed and a thesaurus was compiled. In the framework of ARCA, an operating software created by us for the description of historical bindings that is supported in the catalogue area by the EasyWeb system, which has been in dialogue with SBN for years, today, thanks to the present research project, the SCRINIUM application is being built, in collaboration with the company Nexus, which will allow to describe the decorated papers and access a reference repository. The use of SCRINIUM in the library will permit the description of an aspect of bookbinding that is currently overshadowed, provide a new research tool and make new information available on the web that can be shared (after a cataloguing information transfer procedure) with the various requesting institutions.

Il libro è un oggetto d’uso e al di là del valore informazionale testuale porta in sé un insieme di dati che afferiscono alla cultura materiale. Enucleando dalle compagini documentarie provenienti dalle biblioteche della provincia di Siracusa gli esemplari nella cui legatura comparivano carte xilografate è stata elaborata una metodologia descrittiva, utilizzando una codifica semantica, che ha permesso una prima conversione dei dati in ambiente digitale. Per raggiungere tale proposito, dopo il censimento, sono stati destrutturati gli elementi compositivi di manifattura ed è stato elaborato un thesaurus. All’interno di ARCA, un software operativo da noi creato per la descrizione dei manufatti e delle legature storiche, che si appoggia in ambito catalografico al sistema EasyWeb, da anni in dialogo con SBN, oggi, grazie al presente progetto di ricerca, è in fase di costruzione l’applicativo SCRINIUM, in collaborazione con la ditta Nexus, che permetterà di descrivere le carte decorate e di accedere ad un repertorio di riferimento. L'uso di SCRINIUM in biblioteca permetterà di descrivere un aspetto della legatura oggi in ombra, di fornire un nuovo strumento di ricerca e di rendere disponibili in rete nuove informazioni che potranno essere condivise (dopo una procedura di trasferimento delle informazioni catalografiche) ai vari istituti richiedenti
