Neutrino astronomy is a very young branch of astroparticle physics. More generally, at very high energies, astronomy with photons becomes useless because they are absorbed on the low energy photons from the cosmic background radiation. This limits the path length of a 10 TeV photon, for example, to roughly the distance of the nearest active galaxy. Very high energy gamma-ray sources are good candidate as neutrino sources if their emissions are originated from an hadronic-model decay; on the contrary a purely leptonic processes will not have any neutrino emission. Abstract
In contrast, neutrinos o er a means to study the universe at very high energies or large distances. Very high energy gamma-ray sources are good candidate as neutrino sources if their emissions are originated from an hadronic-model decay; on the contrary a purely leptonic processes will not have any neutrino emission. The main goal of this thesis is the comparison of results in terms of discovery potential flux from di erent statistical methods applied to the search of point-like and extended sources with the KM3NeT telescope which will be build in the Mediterranean Sea with the e orts of an international collaboration and with the ANTARES telescope located at a depth of 2475 m in the South of France.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
