In 1936 Le Pèlerinage aux sources (The Pilgrimage to the sources) by Giuseppe Lanza del Vasto was published in France. Giuseppe Lanza del Vasto, a little known author to the scholars of contemporary literature, longed to know more about the main reasons of the rampant violence in the West so that he tried to find answers to his questions by pilgrimaging to India, where he met Gandhi. After he had tried to reach the source of the sacred river Gange he decided to go back to Europe, in particular in France where he founded a nonviolent movement, named the Arca, in order to diffuse Mahatma s thought by employing relevant nonviolent civil disobedience thanks to Mahatma s teachings. During his cultural training, Giuseppe Lanza del Vasto came across the issues of the Orientalism with particular regard to the relation between the West and the East, a theme variously dealt by important Italian and foreign twentieth century literates in their works including Gozzano, Pasolini, Moravia, Manganelli, Kipling and Rushdie. The present work aims to contextualize the author s work Pilgrimage to the sources within the cultural climate of early twentieth century and to examine the Hindu - Christian spiritual influences that characterize the author's thought in a certain historical period in particular the decades from the 1930s till the 1940s - torn by bloody events such as the second World War. It also aims to examine the writer s spiritual approach to a place like India and its contingent reality by now deprived of its aura of exotic Orientalism.
Nel 1936 viene pubblicato Le Pèlerinage aux sources (tr. it.

Abstract
It also aims to examine the writer s spiritual approach to a place like India and its contingent reality by now deprived of its aura of exotic Orientalism.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
