The movie Une histoire d’amour et de désir, directed by Leyla Bouzid, is about the love story of two young students at the Sorbonne, she comes from Tunis, he from Paris, son of Algerian immigrants. The main thread of the story is the rediscovery of Eros in classical and pre-modern Arabic literature: the two leading characters meet each other and fall in love during the lessons of a course in comparative literature, dedicated to the classics of Arabic poetry on Love. The film reworks some conventional motifs of Arabic erotic poetry that through the new medium, offer the spectator, the authenticity of traditional topoi reinterpreted in the light of contemporary feelings and sensuality.
