Abstract

In this paper, the synthesis of planar thinned arrays with controlled sidelobes is addressed. A novel multi-step autocorrelation-based approach is presented, in which a stochastic optimization is firstly exploited to determine the binary sequence providing the best matching with a target function in the autocorrelation domain, and then the thinned excitations of the array are defined by selecting the best cyclic solution evaluated in terms of a user-defined figure of merit.
