The contribution aims to examine the iconographic and written documentation related to the earthquake that struck the central area of Andalusia in 1884, causing damages to over one hundred urban centres. Through the study of these sources, it is possible to reconstruct the extent of the damage inflicted on the region's urban and architectural heritage and to highlight their importance as tools capable of guiding the criteria that informed subsequent reconstruction activities.
