The representation and 3D modelling of elements in urban areas is essential for the establishment of appropriate urban design and planning criteria. The availability of topographically accurate and precise 3D models provide a valid tool on which to carry out measurements, analyse the surveyed element with respect to the urban context and thus to carry out urban planning interventions. In this work, we present the use of the topographic laser scanner survey for the 3D modelling of a bridge in the city of Catania.

Abstract

The representation and 3D modelling of elements in urban areas is essential for the establishment of appropriate urban design and planning criteria. The availability of topographically accurate and precise 3D models provide a valid tool on which to carry out measurements, analyse the surveyed element with respect to the urban context and thus to carry out urban planning interventions. In this work, we present the use of the topographic laser scanner survey for the 3D modelling of a bridge in the city of Catania.
