In my essay I will analyse ad aspect of the Chekhovian heritage in contemporary Russian theatre and delve deep into the re-writings of V. Sorokin (Jubilej), B. Akunin (Čajka) and L. Ulickaja (Russkoe varen’e). The three works that refer respectively to Jubilej, Čajka and Višnëvyj sad allow the analysis of the different reception of Chekhov during the last two decades and highlight the impossibility of detachment from the model and the models of the playwright.
