Abstract

The characterization of a noise acted IR distance sensor is proposed. The experimental setup is described and the corresponding characterization curve is obtained by using a gray box modeling approach. A quantitative analysis of the system performance in the absence of any additive noise and in the presence of intentionally added uniform distributed noise is performed. In particular it is shown that the additive noise allows both to linearize the system characteristic curve, for large values of the distance, and to improve the system measuring range
