Abstract
In an urban landscape sign stratifications caused by transforming events can hybridize and mix up theflow of relations between the parts, bringing back a partial knowledge of reality. As such, the analysisof original identity goes through the study of those absences whose memory lasts in the historicaliconography. The present study proposes an investigation which takes into account the iconographical sources asthe starting point for memory preservation and as a documentary research for reconstructionhypotheses. The testing ground is Ortygia, an island rich in history and with an extraordinaryiconographical heritage. The virtual digital elaboration of some of these representations – in particular those which are aboutplaces affected by deep changes in the course of the last two centuries and which transformedemblematic works of the history of the town into absences – becomes a connection between memoryand matter and a potential vehicle for a knowledge which can be more easily and pervasivelycommunicated.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
