4 big plots, situated in hilly territory (310 m a.s.l.) in the province of Catania (Sicily) and cultivated with durum wheat were used for a five year period of tests to compare “conservative” techniques of no tilling and sod-seeding and “traditional” techniques of soil cultivation and seeding on tilled soil in dry-warm climatic conditions. The experimentation aimed at evaluating - for the different combinations of machines and techniques distinguishing the test years - the energy consumption, the work capacity and the organization of the different work sites, as well as some important agronomic aspects of the hypotheses to be compared.
