Starting from Capuana’s definition of a “nervous” and “ modern” woman, the essay, specially through the analysis of the short story Fasma, searches the peculiar features of this new female figure for whom the writer’s concern, more than simply sketching out some female profiles, is aimed mainly at grasping their secret. Like so many other restless spirits of his age, Capuana, through women profiles, was trying to find his own profile, that is his more authentic literary dimension. It is in accordance with this meaning the interest shown for his heroines is to be interpreted, as the research for his heroes’ identification with a certain type of female figure, particularly, that of a hysterical female figure.

Abstract
Starting from Capuana’s definition of a “nervous” and “ modern” woman, the essay, specially through the analysis of the short story Fasma, searches the peculiar features of this new female figure for whom the writer’s concern, more than simply sketching out some female profiles, is aimed mainly at grasping their secret. Like so many other restless spirits of his age, Capuana, through women profiles, was trying to find his own profile, that is his more authentic literary dimension. It is in accordance with this meaning the interest shown for his heroines is to be interpreted, as the research for his heroes’ identification with a certain type of female figure, particularly, that of a hysterical female figure.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
