A novel direct measurement strategy of bottomvelocities and shear stresses based on the use of ferrofluids ispresented. The proposed methodology is aimed at overcomingsome of the limits of state-of-the-art instruments, for use inpresence of both surface waves and sediments. An inductivereadout strategy is proposed along with experimental resultswhich indicate the applicability of the proposed strategy.
