The development of sophisticated multimedia applications requires accurate performance evaluation tools to efficiently design and manage future high bandwidth networks. Although many works in literature present models of MPEG video traffic, few efforts have been up to now devoted to capture one of the most important characteristics: the intra-GoP correlation. In this paper an accurate, fast and easy generation model of MPEG video traffic is proposed. The model allows to generate a sequence, imposing the short range dependence (SRD), the long range dependence (LRD) behavior and the probability density function of any given MPEG video sequence.

Abstract

The development of sophisticated multimedia applications requires accurate performance evaluation tools to efficiently design and manage future high bandwidth networks. Although many works in literature present models of MPEG video traffic, few efforts have been up to now devoted to capture one of the most important characteristics: the intra-GoP correlation. In this paper an accurate, fast and easy generation model of MPEG video traffic is proposed. The model allows to generate a sequence, imposing the short range dependence (SRD), the long range dependence (LRD) behavior and the probability density function of any given MPEG video sequence.
