The main goal of the paper is to propose a methodology to improve the performance of a Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS), based on the use of Petri Nets. The modelling is performed with the aim to represent the general behaviour of the FMS, avoiding a detailed description of the operations it involves. The model of the FMS is then used to evaluate its performance through simulation. The methodology proposed in the paper allows tuning suitable parameters of the FMS in order to improve its performance. The paper refers to a case study concerning ST Microelectronics plant in Catania (Italy) for the production of semiconductor devices.

Abstract
The main goal of the paper is to propose a methodology to improve the performance of a Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS), based on the use of Petri Nets. The modelling is performed with the aim to represent the general behaviour of the FMS, avoiding a detailed description of the operations it involves. The model of the FMS is then used to evaluate its performance through simulation. The methodology proposed in the paper allows tuning suitable parameters of the FMS in order to improve its performance. The paper refers to a case study concerning ST Microelectronics plant in Catania (Italy) for the production of semiconductor devices.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
