Given the great importance, both economical and productive, of greenhouse crops, and the consequent role played by plant protection, some trials on pesticide application to tomato plants (cv Ikram) were carried out working within a national research project (PRIN) funded by the MUR. The trials were carried out in two phenological stages (pre-production and full development), measuring the foliar deposition and maintaining the equipment and the operating conditions usually adopted by farmers: a handheld spray lance with two nozzles and a working pressure of 20 bar. Despite the big difference in the volume application rates (750 and 1800 l/ha), foliar deposits were on average comparable: 1.278 µl/cm2 in pre-production and 1.430 µl/cm2 at full development. On the other hand, in both stages, differences emerged among the sampling positions on the plants: in pre-production the lowest deposition was found on the leaves of the lower part of the canopy, while at full development the biggest difference was found between external and internal leaves.
