The article deals with the carmen XVI by Sidonius Apollinaris, the only one dedicated to a man of religion, namely his friend Faustus of Riez. In particular it examines and comments on the lines which champions the figure of the bishop-monk and the ascetic environment of Lérins which both Sidonius and Faustus were so tied to. The celebration of Faustus in these lines which seem to transform Christian poetry into monastic poetry, take on the character of a “hagiography in vita”.
