Energy and protein value of lucerne hay and wheat straw in diets for lambs

Studies about definition of energy and protein value of fodders are till now numerous due to increasing interest on use of forages, reputed more healthful than concentrates, and to inexistence, up to date, of univocal and exhaustive nutritive value systems (Tedeschi et al., 2010; Ouda and Nsahlai, (2009); France and Kebreab, 2008; Cannas et al., 2008; Kebreab et al., 2008; Cannas, 2004; Cannas, 2004; Cannas and Dattilo, 1991). The lucerne hay is one of the fodders of election for the bovines and the ovines and use of straw concurs to obtain added value to main products, low costs of the available nutritive substances and positive effects on environmental. On this basis, aim of the present work was to contribute to improve the kwnoledges on energy and protein value of lucerne hay and wheat straw in diets for lambs.
