This study explores the possibility of using Delayed Luminescence (DL) to monitor the effects of some cancer treatment that inhibit cell proliferation and induce apoptosis. Drugs as quercitin, menadione , rotenone and berberine were tested on different cell types, on human leukemia Jurkat-T cells and on anaplastic and follicular thyroid carcinoma cells. DL measurements from liquid suspension of the cultured cells, in the time interval 10 µs – 1 ms were performed. Changes in DL parameters after the use of such agents are consistent with the involvement of the mitochondrial respiratory chain as an important source of DL from mammalian cells.

Abstract
This study explores the possibility of using Delayed Luminescence (DL) to monitor the effects of some cancer treatment that inhibit cell proliferation and induce apoptosis. Drugs as quercitin, menadione , rotenone and berberine were tested on different cell types, on human leukemia Jurkat-T cells and on anaplastic and follicular thyroid carcinoma cells. DL measurements from liquid suspension of the cultured cells, in the time interval 10 µs – 1 ms were performed. Changes in DL parameters after the use of such agents are consistent with the involvement of the mitochondrial respiratory chain as an important source of DL from mammalian cells.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
