Ognina, Malta e l’Egeo

The Ognina site has till now been interpreted as a Maltese colony. Re-examination of the ceramics makes it possible to state that Ognina is the terminal of a route that from the Aegean and the Balkans, through the Adriatic and the Italian peninsula (Laterza and Zungri), goes as far as the island itself and then radiates inside (Chiusazza), southwards (Vendicari and Malta) and northwards (Thapsos, Etna area, Aeolian Islands).

Il sito di Ognina è stato interpretato finora come colonia maltese. Il riesame della ceramica consente invece di affermare che Ognina si presenta come il terminale di una rotta che dall’Egeo e dai Balcani, attraverso l’Adriatico e la penisola Italiana (Laterza e Zungri), giunge proprio sull’isola per irradiarsi verso l’interno (Chiusazza), verso Sud (Vendicari e Malta) e verso Nord (Thapsos, area etnea, Eolie).
