When we talk about the rehabilitation of not only a single building but a part of a city (or even better the historic center), it is necessary to consider the methods of analysis which allow us to determine quickly the effective costs. In the case that one patology is more prevelent than another, it is very important to determine quickly the exact state of deterioration to decide the type of intervention. Using the methodology decided by the research group "Materiali e tecniche costruttive della tradizione siciliana" directed by prof. Luigi Margani, called "Statical method by components", the subiect was looked at analysing the pathology of the rising damp (prevelent in the historic centre of Catania) in order to both verify the validity of the method, applying it by pathology and not by building components, and to propose a method of analysis which allows us to minimize the costs of the operations. The investigation was about 220 buildings and was carried out in the following order: a) identifying the techniques used by the builders of Catania (mortar and plasters, type of walls and their coverings); b) outlining the parameters used to be sure of the presence of the pathology analysed both by simply looking and using accurate analysis; c) data elaboration with identification of typical cases; d) suggesting typical remedies; e) determining the costs of the operation.

Abstract
The investigation was about 220 buildings and was carried out in the following order: a) identifying the techniques used by the builders of Catania (mortar and plasters, type of walls and their coverings); b) outlining the parameters used to be sure of the presence of the pathology analysed both by simply looking and using accurate analysis; c) data elaboration with identification of typical cases; d) suggesting typical remedies; e) determining the costs of the operation.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
