Abstract
Landscape, environment and local produce are all interrelated in that the market attributes a high value to the aesthetics of product origin as well as to the excellence of the products themselves. This has become a catalyst for rural development in a campaign to enhance the countryside as natural and cultural heritage. The ‘local produce identity’ factor is perfectly identifiable with ‘landscape identity’ thereby making it a cultural marker. As a result, a research program has been launched aimed at identifying a system of ‘Typical Agricultural Districts’ within the Sicilian Region. The work highlights how development programs based on the rapport between culture-society-landscape-economy-environment can work as a publicity campaign for a new model of promoting Sicily with positive outcomes in various sectors. The rapport between culture-tradition-local produce, in their widest sense, and landscape is the driving force behind a capacity to integrate with other sectors of local systems giving rise to cross-cultural development within the territory.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
