Two different procedures for the dynamic analysis of framed structures in presence of multiple concentrated cracks are presented in this work. The first procedure relies on the definition of a novel beam element where multiple cracks have been embedded. The proposed beam element is adopted for the finite element dynamic analysis of damaged framed structures. The second procedure, based on the formulation of the exact dynamic stiffness matrix of damaged framed structures, aims at the evaluation of the exact natural frequencies, and the relevant mode shapes, by means of the Wittrick and Williams algorithm.

Abstract

Two different procedures for the dynamic analysis of framed structures in presence of multiple concentrated cracks are presented in this work. The first procedure relies on the definition of a novel beam element where multiple cracks have been embedded. The proposed beam element is adopted for the finite element dynamic analysis of damaged framed structures. The second procedure, based on the formulation of the exact dynamic stiffness matrix of damaged framed structures, aims at the evaluation of the exact natural frequencies, and the relevant mode shapes, by means of the Wittrick and Williams algorithm.
