So far the use of optic fibres has been restricted to decorative lighting; indeed their diameters have been unsuitable to transport a large amount of light. As a result, optic fibres are generally used to spotlight goods in shop-windows by concentrating a few luminous flux on small areas. Nowadays some enterprises are producing large core optic fibres (LOFs) with new materials that allow an efficient transport of light over long distances. In the present study the result of a measurement campaign on two different types of LOFs are given in order to outline performances and perspectives of such a new technology.

Abstract
So far the use of optic fibres has been restricted to decorative lighting; indeed their diameters have been unsuitable to transport a large amount of light. As a result, optic fibres are generally used to spotlight goods in shop-windows by concentrating a few luminous flux on small areas. Nowadays some enterprises are producing large core optic fibres (LOFs) with new materials that allow an efficient transport of light over long distances. In the present study the result of a measurement campaign on two different types of LOFs are given in order to outline performances and perspectives of such a new technology.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
