In the paper an implementation profile for the European Home System (EHS) is presented. The proposal derives from the consideration that the communication functions featured by the EHS communication stack are too complex for the application scenarios to which EHS is to be applied. After an analysis of each level of the EHS communication stack, pointing out the relative implementation complexity, a simplification is proposed, consisting of the definition of a communication device, called Small Simple Device - SSiD. The main features of the implementation profile proposed are: the simplicity of implementation of SSiDs and total compatibility with the EHS standard.

Abstract

In the paper an implementation profile for the European Home System (EHS) is presented. The proposal derives from the consideration that the communication functions featured by the EHS communication stack are too complex for the application scenarios to which EHS is to be applied. After an analysis of each level of the EHS communication stack, pointing out the relative implementation complexity, a simplification is proposed, consisting of the definition of a communication device, called Small Simple Device - SSiD. The main features of the implementation profile proposed are: the simplicity of implementation of SSiDs and total compatibility with the EHS standard.
