The research, presented to the conference organized by the Cattolica University of Milan, intends examining from a linguistic point of view the texts produced during the latter part of the 19th century by "hommes de lettres" that dedicated themselves to art criticism. It obtained from this analysis an information which is functional not only for art history and art criticism but especially for literature's linguistics, in particular for stylistics and even for the sociology of symbolic goods' production. Putting together the Pierre Bourdieu's theory of "champs" with the punctual analysis of circumstances and the methods of "discours métapictural", this research investigates the relationships between men of letters and painters, between artists and readers or spectators at the artistic exhibitions (the “salons”), between artists and academic or public institutions. In particular, the analysis of descriptive statements of works of art, produced firstly by J.-K. Huysmans and É. Zola, consents to recognise different rhetoric strategies and opposite literary deals undersigned with the reader.

Abstract
Zola, consents to recognise different rhetoric strategies and opposite literary deals undersigned with the reader.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
