In this paper a regional scale analysis to evaluate the water saving performance of rooftop rain water harvesting systems for domestic use is developed. The adopted methodology to evaluate water saving is presented along with an application to 17 rainfall gauging stations in Sicily (Italy). Compared to existing methods in literature, a novel dimensionless parameter is introduced to better describe the character of the rainfall patterns. An easy-to-use regressive model to derive the water saving performance of the harvesting system at regional scale is determined, based on the results of a daily time step behavioural model with a yield-after-spillage algorithm as tank release rule.

Abstract
In this paper a regional scale analysis to evaluate the water saving performance of rooftop rain water harvesting systems for domestic use is developed. The adopted methodology to evaluate water saving is presented along with an application to 17 rainfall gauging stations in Sicily (Italy). Compared to existing methods in literature, a novel dimensionless parameter is introduced to better describe the character of the rainfall patterns. An easy-to-use regressive model to derive the water saving performance of the harvesting system at regional scale is determined, based on the results of a daily time step behavioural model with a yield-after-spillage algorithm as tank release rule.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
