The first plans for the historical centre of Marignane completely disregarded the presence of valuable architectural elements and proposed the replacement of the traditional houses with new buildings. At the turn of the 20th century, new policies allowed for the beginning of an archaeological campaign and promoted the rehabilitation of the old town. Collaboration between the National Institute of Preventive Archaeological Research and the Universities of Catania and Sassari resulted in an exhaustive survey of nine blocks of the historical centre. The study combines the archaeological approach with non destructive analyses of the historical buildings and their constructional techniques. It also aims to promote a new development of the old city centre by a compatible and sustainable reuse of the existing historical buildings.

Abstract
The first plans for the historical centre of Marignane completely disregarded the presence of valuable architectural elements and proposed the replacement of the traditional houses with new buildings. At the turn of the 20th century, new policies allowed for the beginning of an archaeological campaign and promoted the rehabilitation of the old town. Collaboration between the National Institute of Preventive Archaeological Research and the Universities of Catania and Sassari resulted in an exhaustive survey of nine blocks of the historical centre. The study combines the archaeological approach with non destructive analyses of the historical buildings and their constructional techniques. It also aims to promote a new development of the old city centre by a compatible and sustainable reuse of the existing historical buildings.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
