The authors are currently involved in a research activity that investigates the possibility to use conductive rubbers as deformation sensors. Samples composed by natural rubber loaded by using carbon black have been realized and tested. Moreover, the piezoresistivity behavior of the samples have been investigated at constant temperature working conditions while the elastomeric samples have been subjected to uniaxial defromation. Under these conditions the resistivity variations have been measured. A dynamic behavior of the deformation to resistance dependence has been observed and the system step response of a cylindrical sample has been identified on the basis of experimental data.

Abstract

The authors are currently involved in a research activity that investigates the possibility to use conductive rubbers as deformation sensors. Samples composed by natural rubber loaded by using carbon black have been realized and tested. Moreover, the piezoresistivity behavior of the samples have been investigated at constant temperature working conditions while the elastomeric samples have been subjected to uniaxial defromation. Under these conditions the resistivity variations have been measured. A dynamic behavior of the deformation to resistance dependence has been observed and the system step response of a cylindrical sample has been identified on the basis of experimental data.
