LA CASA IN PAGLIA. SOSTENIBILITÀ ENERGETICA ED ECONOMICA - THATCHED BUILDINGS. ENERGY AND ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY

The desire to reclaim the historical, social and material identity of the places leads to the rediscovery of building materials and construction techniques which have remained unused for a long time and replaced by others considered better performing, cheaper and "modern". Moreover, a sustainable approach to the project tends to recognize natural, biodegradable, recyclable and non-polluting materials as the most suitable for environmentally friendly buildings. Recently the thatch has been re-evaluated too. In Sicily a large amount of grain and thatch has always been produced in the past, Therefore, the thatch is available in large quantities and with low costs of production and transportation. The research evaluate the performance and convenience of thatched buildings.

La volontà di riappropriarsi dell’identità storica, sociale e materica dei luoghi, porta alla riscoperta di materiali edilizi e tecniche costruttive per lungo tempo accantonati a vantaggio di altri, ritenuti più performanti, economici e “moderni”. Inoltre, un approccio sostenibile alla progettazione tende a riconoscere i prodotti naturali, biodegradabili, riciclabili e non inquinanti, come quelli più adatti per un’attività edilizia rispettosa dell’ambiente. Di recente è stata rivalutata anche la paglia. In Sicilia da sempre è stata prodotta una grande quantità di grano e quindi di paglia, suo sottoprodotto, che pertanto risulta disponibile in grande quantità e con irrisori costi di produzione e trasporto. Vengono valutate le prestazioni e la convenienza delle costruzioni in paglia.
