La strada della ricostruzione a Catania: tra immagine e rilievo il sistema dei conventi in via dei crociferi [Catania and the road to reconstruction: from the “image” to the survey recording of the monastery system in Via dei Crociferi]

AbstractAfter the earthquake of 1693, we are witnessing the reconstruction of the city with the new Earthquake dictates. The religious orders working to build their convents. In a road having a length of about 800 m, are setting five religious orders. The organization and therefore the construction is done according to a specific pattern: no convent or church overlooks of another religious facility. With a checkerboard pattern, is organized the architecture, and so the image of the road, handed down through three centuries: a legacy, representing the collective imagination, the heart of the city. The slow reconstruction, we are given by artists and architects, through a baroque, that is the unique architectural history of the city. Through the reliefs carried out by different methods, it is documented one of the streets of the post-earthquake reconstruction. From reading them, it is possible retrace, the three centuries of architecture of this street.
