In this paper an innovative Analog Beamforming Network is described, operating in Ka band, to be used on a new generation of Satellite Terminals for Communications on the Move. The Beamforming Network provides the required suitably phase shifted RF signals with adequate power levels to the phased array antenna elements in order to squint the beam electronically toward the satellite direction and keep the link with the satellite active also during the movement of the vehicle. A continuous phase shifting is achieved using I/Q mixers in a particular operating condition, resulting in an original low cost engineering solution, adopted on both Tx and Rx modules, achieving a full continuous 360 degrees coverage in the beam squint.

Abstract
In this paper an innovative Analog Beamforming Network is described, operating in Ka band, to be used on a new generation of Satellite Terminals for Communications on the Move. The Beamforming Network provides the required suitably phase shifted RF signals with adequate power levels to the phased array antenna elements in order to squint the beam electronically toward the satellite direction and keep the link with the satellite active also during the movement of the vehicle. A continuous phase shifting is achieved using I/Q mixers in a particular operating condition, resulting in an original low cost engineering solution, adopted on both Tx and Rx modules, achieving a full continuous 360 degrees coverage in the beam squint.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
