Diagnostic and prognostic role of TFF3, Romo-1, NF-кB and SFRP4 as biomarkers for endometrial and ovarian cancers: a prospective observational translational study
Purpose This study aimed to evaluate trefoil factor 3 (TFF3), secreted frizzled-related protein 4 (sFRP4), reactive oxygen species modulator 1 (Romo1) and nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kappa B) as diagnostic and prognostic markers of endometrial cancer (EC) and ovarian cancer (OC). Methods Thirty-one patients with EC and 30 patients with OC undergone surgical treatment were enrolled together with 30 healthy controls in a prospective study. Commercial ELISA kits determined serum TFF-3, Romo-1, NF...
Translating poetry in sign language: an embodied perspective
In the translation into sign language, where does the «sense» reside and how can it be constructed in the target language? To what extent does the orality of sign languages, intended as the absence of a writing system, affect the translation process? What role do the characteristics of sign languages, first and foremost iconicity, play? The issues we address in this study are placed at the crossroads between sign language linguistics and translation studies, thanks to the awareness that both ...
Il nome al vocativo in Lingua dei Segni Italiana (LIS): esito del contatto con la lingua vocale?
It has been observed that in the Italian Sign Language (LIS), as well as in many other sign languages, the «name sign» is used to identify a person, just like a proper name; it is assigned when entering the deaf community (RUSSO CARDONA / VOLTERRA 2007). In this article, we focus on the vocative function of the name, on the possibility of using the name to address a specific receiver and to select him/her (MAZZOLENI 1995). It has been noted that in various sign languages, for example in the A...
Off-Resonant Dicke Quantum Battery: Charging by Virtual Photons
We investigate a Dicke quantum battery in the dispersive regime, where the photons trapped in a resonant cavity are much more energetic with respect to the two-level systems embedded into it. Under such off-resonant conditions, even an empty cavity can lead to the charging of the quantum battery through a proper modulation of the matter–radiation coupling. This counterintuitive behaviour has its roots in the effective interaction between two-level systems mediated by virtual photons emerging ...
