Epoxy resins are widely used for structural fiberreinforced composites because of their easy processing and good thermomechanicalproperties but they are brittle. This brittleness cause delamination incomposites. Epoxy resins used in structural prepregs for aircraft primary structuresare blended with aromatic thermoplastics to overcome the poor toughnessof epoxies but these prepregs cannot be used in resin transfer moldingbecause of their high viscosity caused by the thermoplastic predissolved in.Therefore, a novel approach based on soluble interlaminar thermoplastic veilswas developed and is discussed here. Interlaminar toughening with solubleveils is influenced by different parameters such as: thermoplastic type, epoxymonomer type, cure profile, presence of filler etc. The present paper summarizethe researches carried out on this topic showing the influence of some designparameters on the efficiency of the proposed approach. The comparisonwith the use of non soluble interlaminar veils is also discussed.
