The numerous conversations had with Maurizio about the relationship between craft production and economic organization among ancient Near Eastern societies have been for me a constant stimulus throughout my archaeological career. In particular, it has been his 1984 brilliant article on craft specialization in the Turanian basin in Iran (Tosi 1984) that has stimulated my interest in analyzing and interpreting the relationship between pottery production and social organization of ancient Near Eastern societies using an economic perspective (Laneri 2009). It is for these reasons that I want to dedicate to him this initial study on the relationship between the enactment of long-distance trade of goods by private merchants, and the increase of urbanization in the ancient Near East during the early 2nd millennium BC.

Abstract
The numerous conversations had with Maurizio about the relationship between craft production and economic organization among ancient Near Eastern societies have been for me a constant stimulus throughout my archaeological career. In particular, it has been his 1984 brilliant article on craft specialization in the Turanian basin in Iran (Tosi 1984) that has stimulated my interest in analyzing and interpreting the relationship between pottery production and social organization of ancient Near Eastern societies using an economic perspective (Laneri 2009). It is for these reasons that I want to dedicate to him this initial study on the relationship between the enactment of long-distance trade of goods by private merchants, and the increase of urbanization in the ancient Near East during the early 2nd millennium BC.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
