The aim of this article is to investigate the relationship between the Egyptian Revolution and the issues raised by independent theatre: demands for civil liberties for freedom of speech, as well as the desire to reoccupy streets and cafés before, during and after the 25th January revolution. This study address the themes raised by theatrical works and show how these independent groups negotiated their own artistic and performance spaces.
