Abstract [20] The increasing attention of modern society towards environmental problems coming from acoustic pollution requires the correct assessment of acoustic climate in build up area as support of urbanistic planning. Authors believe that the acoustic planning of area and the prevision of mitigation works of acoustic impacts particularly in presence of heavy road-traffic are some of the indispensable keys as bases of correct urbanistic planning. The complexity and variability of parameters characterizing the assessment of acoustic pollution requires the use of predictive 3D model and specialized software both indispensable to verificate reliability and accuracy of assessment. The aim of research has been to test the predictive acoustic software, called “MITHRA”, to discover the reliability and accuracy of its forecast. The aim has been reached through the comparison between the results of acoustic forecast and the acoustic data really measured in situ. The investigation has been carried out in a very urbanized area of Catania city (Italy), exposed to intense noise road traffic. In this way the paper wants to show how the accuracy of forecast not only depend by the reliability of code but also it is really influenced by some other parameters as like some details of geometric survey, the accuracy of surveying of road traffic volume, the ”specific sensivity” of computer operator during execution of simulation and so on. People wants to show too in which degree it need to take care of previously parameters to obtain to correct assessment of acoustic climate in certain area
