The event distributed parameter model AGNPS was used to predict runoff and sediment yield in a 130-ha watershed, mainly pasture, in Eastern Sicily. A 2525 m grid based GIS was used to process topography, topsoil and landuse parameters. The model was applied to 17 observed events (9 of which included suspended sediment concentration measurements), occurring from 1997 to 2000, and model results were compared to experimental data. Runoff depth and sediment yield were reasonably well simulated by the model, while poorer results were obtained in reproducing peak flows.

Abstract

The event distributed parameter model AGNPS was used to predict runoff and sediment yield in a 130-ha watershed, mainly pasture, in Eastern Sicily. A 2525 m grid based GIS was used to process topography, topsoil and landuse parameters. The model was applied to 17 observed events (9 of which included suspended sediment concentration measurements), occurring from 1997 to 2000, and model results were compared to experimental data. Runoff depth and sediment yield were reasonably well simulated by the model, while poorer results were obtained in reproducing peak flows.
