The idea underlying the volume was to contribute to the improvement of judicial cooperation in criminal matters – and especially in the field of protection of financial interests of the European Union – by reshaping legal training of practitioners. Such an objective was considered to be an essential step while preparing the putting into place of the European Public Prosecutor Office, since the latter is conceived as an institution deeply embedded in the structure of national inquiring authorities, and because of that its smooth functioning will very much rely on decisions and activities of the competent authorities at national level. In particular, the action aimed at promoting a genuine European approach in the definition of training of legal practitioners, especially by fostering mutual trust and enhancing awareness of practitioners about the existence of a well-established common legal framework, covering general principles as well as legal standards concerning criminal law and also relevant for the PIF sector.
