Esperienza e produzione di paesaggio in Sicilia: la testimonianza degli architetti in viaggio Experience and Construction of Landscape in Sicily: the Commentaries of Traveling Architects

This paper addresses the issue of the formation of knowledge of the Sicilian landscape through the perspectives of the architects who crossed the island from the eighteenth to the early twentieth century. With the narration of their erratic experience they have provided significant evidence about many of the topical aspects of the various forms of the Sicilian territory. The research intends to organize the results of the historiographical study of the material produced by travelers in a geo-referenced archiving tool based on the Web-GIS technology, which allows cross-consultation and real-time visualization of the results. The research addresses three topical themes: Archaeology in Sicily; Medieval Architecture; Vernacular architecture and Mediterranean landscape
