Intercultural communication regards how 'someone from one culture interacts with someone from another' (Corbett 2011: 308), and this interaction may take place in any context, formal or informal. This paper describes a teacher's first job in the Italian university system, and the intercultural dimension relates to the encounter between British and Italian attitudes in the context of further education, in relation to student expectations and the teacher's role.
